Maintenance on the exterior

Aside from seasonal maintenance on the exterior, keep the interior clean. Regular thorough cleaning inside eliminates the burden of major seasonal cleaning . . . unless you plan to redecorate.
Wash and wax linoleum floors every week or two. Wash windows and mirrors every two to three weeks.
Never use abrasive cleansers on bathroom fixtures. Clean them at least twice weekly with a foaming cleanser. Aerosols lack the cleaning efficiency of abrasives, so you use them more frequently. Allow the foam to work for a couple of minutes—until the foam disappears. Then rinse the dirt down the drain with little or no wiping.

Vacuum the draperies and dust the walls monthly. Vacuum upholstery just as regularly, and shampoo it a couple of times a year, when you do the carpet.
Clean your kitchen cabinets and bedroom closets every three months or so. Clean and polish paneled walls too. At the same time, remove registers and clean inside the heating/cooling ducts.
